A friend once noted that my body doesn't seem to have 'memory'. For obvious reasons, she wasn't talking 'bout mental memory, but physical memory. It was a new term for me, probably a self-grown term for all I care :P What it implied was that my body does not retain its physical state, or more likely depletes its state faster than average.
I have to agree with her to some extent. I (used) to do regular workouts just to keep relatively fit. Not full-fledged routines and all, just enough to satisfy my need to feel 'fit'. Anyways, been busy lately, so the past 2 months have been devoid of the routine. Just felt like getting back on my feet once again, now.
To my shocking discovery, 2 months was enough to make me feel hopeless. Either I put on unexpected weight (gotta go check my weight soon) OR my body just completely lost all its previously acquired stamina and build. Push-ups never felt so heavy, and skipping never felt so strenuous. What's going on!?
Well hopefully I'll gain back my endurance after resuming my routine. But to think that 2 months is enough to kill all that effort, it makes me worry. Am I doomed to be the few unlucky people who just can't maintain anything physical without regular practice? I actually notice this in many events:
- Basketball: Having weekly games doesn't help me improve. The way I see it, I need to get back to my university schedule... almost daily, or every-other-day practices.
- Badminton: Weekly games have gotten to a moot point of not helping me improve. Either more tight games are needed, or I'll need to find alternative mechanisms to keep improving regularly
- Running: Used to be able to jog for 5+ km WITHOUT regular exercise. Now, I don't even dare to find out. Something tells me I'll be heartbroken, hahaha.
*sigh* I need to resume my jogging sessions. Time to hunt for good jogging spots.
Next time, when you leave your office, look for me at my place. We'll play basketball :P
ReplyDeletei've lost all hope of sustaining a level of achievement in basketball. *sigh* after work, i'd rather just head home and do my usual work-out instead of killing myself playing basket ball :P
ReplyDeleteseelar.. if i EVER get motivated :P
